Battle of the Bots… FIGHT!

A few days ago a good streamer friend of mine asked me, “Kitty, what chatbot do you use? Your stream seems to be so streamlined.” I explained what chat bots I use and why; and I then reminded him that there are other choices out there that might benefit him better depending on what his needs are for the stream. The more we chatted, the more we figured out which chat bots would best fit his needs. Do not confuse these chat bots with viewer bots or follower bots (which are illegal per the Twitch TOS because they fake views/followers on your behalf).

These chat bots are a third party program or service that automatically performs certain tasks on your behalf to make your life as a streamer easier. You can set them up to moderate your chat to automatically, delete spam or offensive words from your chat. In addition to this you can also set up a raffle for your viewers, let your viewers pick songs to play in the background while you stream, or to have a specific sentence/blurb auto type out.

Most of you may know that there are 4 “main bots” out there (of course there are several lesser known bots) and they are Nightbot, Moobot, Ankhbot, and Deepbot. First, you need to ask yourself do I need one of these chat bots? Of course this is something only you can answer, but my feelings on this is yes, most all channels can benefit for the assistance of a bot, but each one has it’s pluses/minuses and we’ll explain each one so you can see which one would be a better fit for you.

DeepBot
This bot is one of the more customizable chat bots available, however deepbot is more focused on the social aspect of your stream. It does this by encouraging your viewers to play some of the games it includes using the loyalty points/currency that you earn. Here are some of the perks and drawbacks

  • Requires $10 donation to the creator to apply to use bot. (Most all medium to larger streamers are approved to use it)
  • If you want to use the follower/tip notification alerts it requires a monthly fee
  • If you want to use the racing game it requires a monthly fee
  • You can customize the bots name to whatever you want by creating a new Twitch account for it
  • The program is launched separately than twitch or OBS
  • You get to chose your channel’s currency/loyalty points name
  • Doesn’t filter spam or obscenities
  • Provides auction tools, music requests via YouTube, and offers queue for players to play with you
  • Custom commands (example: !MB - Kitty_haz_Claws says Meow Bitch!)
  • Custom SFX commands (you can add sounds/music to any command)
  • Betting (with loyalty points)
  • Creating polls
  • Creating quotes
  • Keeps track of your chat (limited) within the program
  • Death Counter
  • You can update your stream title/game within the program

NightBot
This bot is one of the most widely used bots and though most everyone “hates” NightButt (a well loved nickname for the program) it is one of the best “free” bots that offers chat policing, spam, and most anything that will annoy you in chat. I say this bot is “free” because it is technically free, however you have limited commands, timed commands, etc. If you donate $5 to the developer you are then allowed to use the bot in it’s fullest capabilities. If you want to get the most out of this bot you will need to be comfortable with using !commands.

  • Free - needs donation to unlock all features
  • Customizable spam, obscenity, hyperlink, and caps filters
  • Custom commands and timed commands
  • Play music via youtube through song requests
  • Mods can control the bot via chat commands
  • You can allow others to log into your bot through their own login to help out during stream
  • Update stream name/game via chat commands
  • There is NO follow, subs, or tip notifications
  • Launched through a browser
  • Easily can track your channels statistics (timeouts, warnings, chat lines, most used commands)
  • Easily conduct raffles
  • Works well with Deepbot & MooBot

MooBot
This bot is a good browser bot, you can go to their webpage and connect your Twitch Channel to them. MooBot is another “free” service you can use. Once again I say “free” because you need to pay to unlock extra features (on a monthly basis) such as changing the bots name, or using more than 8 custom commands, chat notifications, etc. In the long run this bot can be one of the more expensive bots out there. Thank you MagikTheGamer for your help with research and information on this blog about this bot. He personally uses this bot. Also if you have questions he will be able to help you!

  • You can configure “regulars” (special viewers/followers) to be exempt from spam rules
  • Launched via browser
  • Free - needs donation to unlock all features
  • Cannot change the bots name unless you pay $20/mth
  • Customizable spam, obscenity, hyperlink, and caps filters
  • Ability to conduct raffles
  • Update stream name/game via chat commands
  • Private chat notifications when new viewers talk
  • Custom commands and timed commands
  • Play music via YouTube through song requests
  • Create polls
  • Automatic 24/7 channel hosting
  • You can allow editors to log into your bot through their own login to help out during stream
  • Notifies PS4/XBox streamers of new followers in chat with a random message
  • Automatic Twitch commercials (for Twitch Partners only)

Ankhbot
This bot is the new kid on the bot block, and it is quickly becoming one of the best chat bots available. The most attractive aspect of it is that it is 100% free; and it can do just about everything that the other 3 bots we talked about earlier can do! It does run as it’s own program separate from twitch, which is similar to DeepBot. Also, just like DeepBot you will need to create a separate twitch account for this bot which means you can customize the bot’s name! The developer of this bot is very active on Twitter so if you have an issue you can tweet to him @AnkhHeart and he is usually quick to respond. Thank you MagikTheGamer for your help with research and information on this blog about this bot. He personally uses this bot. Also if you have questions he will be able to help you!

  • You can watch the chat via the console
  • Change stream game/title in the dashboard
  • Twitch Partners can run commercials through the dashboard
  • Custom commands and timed commands
  • Custom SFX commands (you can add sounds/music to any command)
  • Creating Quotes
  • Conducting Raffles
  • Currency System/Loyalty Points
  • Viewers can play one of the mini games using the currency/loyalty points they earned
  • Shoutout (regular or SFX) can be set up to greet specific people when they enter a channel
  • Follower/Subscriber/Host Notifications with customizable SFX (great for console streamers)
  • Filters out most all spam, web links, and blacklists specific words/phrases you request
  • Play music via YouTube through song requests
  • Death Counter
  • You can allow editors to log into your bot through their own login to help out during stream
  • You can configure “regulars” (special viewers/followers) to be exempt from the spam rules

So which chat bot do you think is best for you? If you’re still not sure you can try them all out for free and then you can really get a feel for how each one works and if it would benefit your channel. Why don’t you let me know in the comments below what bots you use and why? I’d love to know what you think!

Until next time…

XOXO,
Kitty
